What is the purpose of the plan?
The purpose of the plan is to unlock future development potential of Gilbert Northwest. The plan will:
Define Gilbert Northwest’s role and identity
Identify where and how change should occur
Ensure land use, infrastructure, and economic development are well-aligned
Set clear, implementable strategies
Provide tools, funding approaches, and a roadmap for success
Why now?
Gilbert Northwest is showing early signs of transition, including aging infrastructure and development patterns, evolving market expectations, and increasing regional competition. Through bolstering existing assets, such as a strong employment base and strategic regional access, the plan will provide a proactive and flexible approach to reinvestment. As of June 2024, Gilbert Northwest is a designated redevelopment area.
What does it mean to be a designated redevelopment area?
According to the Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) §36-1473, municipalities may desingate a redevelopment area and declare necessitiy of redevelopment. Gilbert Town Council approved the Northwest Gilbert Redevelopment Area Boundary with the adoption of Resolution No. 4487 on June 18, 2024.
